Midsummer Busyness

Pregnancy update, week 27
Only 13 weeks left to go!  The date is coming up too quickly, it feels like there’s so much left to do.  Mostly it’s because we haven’t taken the labor and birth classes, and I haven’t done much research, so I haven’t decided how I want to do this.  The classes start next week and will be every Thursday in August, so I hope after that I will feel more prepared for how this is going to happen.  I signed up for newborn care and breastfeeding basics (separate classes) in September.

My last doctor’s appointment (two weeks ago) went well.  As usual I was in and out in five minutes without learning anything.  The doctor did measure me this time, but I don’t remember the number, just that she said everything looked perfect.  I have gained more weight than I thought I would at this point…that number I remember!!  However, I exercise around 4-5 times per week and am careful to balance healthy eating with small indulgences (a cookie or two ;).  To me, it looks like I grow 1cm per day.  And suddenly, I have been finding a lot of food marks on my belly after a meal.  I'm determined to take pictures every week now.

I finally accepted I will never have a free day to go out shopping for maternity clothes, so I ordered some work clothes and necessities online and am SO happy with them.  I wish I had done it sooner.

26 weeks (I looked bigger in real life)
26 weeks

I’ve actually been awake since 7:00am (on a Saturday!) because I started to worry about what would happen if I go into labor while I’m at work in West Philadelphia.  :(  The hospital would be 1+ hours away on a good day, and how would I get there?  I can’t drive myself and I can’t wait for Mike to come pick me up.  If there’s an accident on the Schuylkill or NE extension, there would be a serious problem.
My work space this morning - I thought this captured the dichotomy of housewife and working woman
Two weekends ago we started off by seeing the new Batman movie on Friday.  It was really good!  (When you’re pregnant, do you seem to notice more pregnant women everywhere?  I saw two others at the 11:00pm IMAX showing!)  Then Saturday of course we had Kelly and Sean’s baby shower.  It was really nice - there was so much good food that everyone helped put together and, as always, great company.  I was only in charge of the games, which I suppose went well.  The rest Mom took care of so I just showed up and enjoyed the party!  Kelly looked really good, I think Kelly and Sean both looked well-rested and happy.  They got a lot of good gifts, too – Mike and I got them the bouncer from their registry.

That Sunday I got to Skype with Mirka.  We talked for over an hour!  She looks well; she is staying with her parents this summer while applying for jobs and going on interviews.  Early next year she has an exam to take to graduate so she has to study for that as well.

This past week I had tutoring three nights, as usual, and Mom and Dad took us out to wing night. :)  We haven’t had many opportunities to visit with them since we’ve been so busy – lately we’ve been seeing them to take care of something and haven’t been able to stay long – so it was really nice to sit down and talk with them.  Hmm, now that I think about it, I did have chicken fingers and fries that night.  HAVE I been eating healthy??

We also got several packages from Chrissy and Zack in the mail.  Inside were bags and bags of baby girl clothes, shoes, crib linens and blankets.  We were SO excited to get them – we couldn’t believe how much they had been able to send us.  It makes me feel so much more prepared and will save us quite a bit of money.  Thank you guys so much!!

This weekend Mike’s parents brought the crib!  It’s really exciting to have the crib and dresser here finally, and to have all of the non-baby furniture and boxes moved out.  Mike’s old bed was broken down and moved temporarily to Mom and Dad’s (thank you again!) and we moved the desk downstairs.  We had to do a little rearranging in the living room, but we love the new look.  I also went to an Impact thrift store with Mike’s mom to get a computer chair – isn’t that silly we’ve had a desk for 6 months and no chair.
Matching dresser - Mike's dad brought two weeks ago

They arrived yesterday and have to leave today after Mass and breakfast.  I think we all had fun working on the baby’s room together.  We visited with Mom and Dad Mischinski for a little bit when we dropped the bed off, had a nice dinner at Maggiano’s and played a game of cards.
The desk got moved to the corner of the living room
The end table is now between the chairs

Friday night I decided that, instead of coming right home (from tutoring) to clean for the in-laws, I would take Mike out for a beer and have a little date night.  The little mom and pop restaurant I decided to take him to has a great selection of beer, and coincidentally a great dessert menu.  Omg, the brownie fudge sundae was so amazing.  Forget Dairy Queen, next time I need a sweets fix I’m going back there!  Mike ordered a Belgium triple, which he has brewed before himself.  I tasted it and I swear, if I did a blind taste test between his brew and that brand, I would not be able to tell the difference.
I didn't have time to take a picture of the dessert itself, just the carnage

Work Update
My job is going fine.  I’m on the road on average probably once a week.  The farthest I’ve been so far is York and Lancaster County.  Last week we had a regional manager from one of our main manufacturers fly in from Missouri to train the new hire and me.  Part of the week the three of us spent in our conference room where he talked to us about new products.  The rest of the time we took him out to visit engineering firms to give them presentations.  I learned a lot and was very happy that I was able to coordinate everything between the regional manager and the engineering firms in my territory.  Everything went very smoothly, despite my nightmare about being late and not being able to get donuts.

Now I just want to focus on finishing preparations for the baby.  That involves getting the last of our registry items (and anything else we need), getting a shelving unit to organize her room, taking our baby classes, doing some research, touring the hospital, picking out a pediatrician, figuring out what to pack in a hospital bag, etc.

Also, I never posted pictures of our bedroom since it wasn't clean.  It was really clean this weekend so I snapped a few.  Don't you love the bedding set?  It was a wedding gift from Kelly and Sean.  The lambskin rug was a graduation gift from Mom and Dad - it's really comfortable.

July 4th in Pittsburgh

We had a great visit with Mike's family.  Saturday we helped move Michelle into her new apartment (congrats again Michelle!), had the baby shower on Sunday, visited Tom and Maryanne (Mike's "adopted grandparents") Monday, ate lunch with Aunt Kathy on Tuesday and went to a Pirates game that night (they won--a very exciting game). We got to show Mike's parents the sonograms, which they loved.  We also found time to lay some cards which is always nice.

I have to scan the sonograms in...

Baby shower
The baby shower was lovely - Mike's parents hosted it at a really cute country-style restaurant.  Quite a few people made it including family, in-laws, and friends.  Everyone was extremely generous, I didn't imagine we would get so much!  It is amazing that we have such supportive people in our lives.  Mike's parents got us a crib AND dresser (below) and Michelle I believe is getting a sheet set to go with it.

Last weekend we went to Liana, Karlyn and Andy's graduation party which was a lot of fun.  Sunday we went to Babies R Us to return some items.  While we were there we test drove some strollers and gliders.  Then we went across the street to shop for mattresses--we are so looking forward to getting a nice mattress that is right for us.  We haven't decided when we're going to buy it, but we have it picked out now.

Our weeks have been busy.  I started my tutoring three nights a week, which is going well.  Wednesday we went to a tailgate/theology night at our church.  It was a lot of fun, we met a few more people and Mike made some delicious pulled pork.

My coworkers car - maybe I'll be driving this in 25 years.

At 25 weeks, I am definitely looking pregnant now.  She has quieted down and isn't as active as before (I think it's because I have cut back on sweets - if I binge, she goes wild).  I've had lots of energy and have added a prenatal aerobics video to my routine (courtesy of Kelly).  My next doctor appointment is Monday, just a regular check up.  I can't believe we have 15 weeks--possibly less!--to go.  I am very eager to get everything in order for her arrival.

I am having such a hard time composing this post.....It's been in draft mode forever.  I'm just gonna publish as is!
